Elder Wecker had an interesting day yesterday.

Today we were scheduled to pick
up Eddie Martell for a discussion with the elders. Eddie had gone to the church early to fill a
cleaning assignment with Brother and Sister Richards. When Sister Wecker and I arrived at the church,
I went to find Eddie. In crossing
through the chapel, there was a woman there crying. I did not disturb her, but went into the
foyer. While standing there, the woman
came out of the chapel and I spoke with her.
Louise was feeling sad on the second
anniversary of her mother’s death. She had come looking for a church to pray
in. She was wearing an amulet that held
some of her mother’s ashes and asked if we could bless it. I explained that we did not bless objects,
but we do bless people if she was interested.
We then invited her to meet with
the missionaries to provide some comfort and understanding about the plan of
salvation and where her mother is now. She agreed and we took her to the
seminary room where we were to meet with Eddie.
There was a pretty good-sized crowd – the Crescent City elders were
still in town because of unsafe road conditions north, so a lesson on the plan of
salvation was presented by Elders Ward and Low from Eureka, Elders Crofts and
Swarts from Crescent City. Sister Wecker and I were there along with Bro.
Welling and Bro. Martell. We all chimed
in from time to time and Eddie gave some good comments.
Louise told us she had been
visiting churches but hadn’t really connected.
She seems quite spiritual and has felt something in her prayers. But her main concern was how did we know what
came next and why God would take away our loved ones through death. We spoke of faith, scriptures given through the
prophets and the witness of the Hoy Ghost.
Elder Ward set an appointment with
her for next Wednesday, and she indicated she would come to church on Sunday.
I feel sure the Spirit brought
her to the church at a time when there was somebody there to let her in and
then to teach her. We explained that the
building is not always open, so she just couldn’t drop by and expect to get in.
It was an exceptional day.
The video worked. What a lot of water! Poor cows.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you shared the experience about Louise. It's amazing!
